ALGIERS – Wednesday, 01 March 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, announced Tuesday that Algeria exported nearly 70,000 tons of fruits and vegetables for more than US$63 million during the first 11 months of 2022.
Speaking at the National Conference on Agriculture, held at the Palace of Nations (Club des Pins), Rezig said that 69,700 tons of fruit and vegetables were exported during the first 11 months of last year (US$63 million).
Algeria exported 83,200 tons of fruit and vegetables in 2021 with an amount worth US$82.4 million, against 78,500 tons (US$75.4 million) in 2020.
According to the Minister, Algeria has implemented a strategy for the marketing of these products through the development of a program to improve and activate marketing networks by supporting the marketing of fruits and vegetables with wholesale and retail markets.
He reported the construction of 7 new markets by the public economic company (EPE) “MAGRO” over the past 3 years across the country.
The total number of wholesale markets for vegetables and fruit has reached 51 nationwide pending the receipt of the new wholesale market in the province of Guelma.
The retail distribution spaces of fruit and vegetables cover 880 markets across the country.
Rezig reported 5,081 intermediary traders in the field of wholesale distribution of fruit and vegetables, 35,502 retail traders countrywide, and 54,610 itinerant traders of fruit and vegetables.
The number of traders in the sale of meat hits 5,252 wholesale traders and 39,691 retail traders, spread over the national market, according to the Minister.
