ALGIERS – Sunday, 08 October 2023 (APS) – Algeria and Chile underlined Sunday their joint willingness to strengthen their bilateral relations and to give them new impetus in the best interests of the two countries.
Co-chairing in Algiers, with Chile’s Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Gloria de la Fuente, the works of the 5th session of political discussions between the two sides, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Lounes Magramane, underlined that this meeting is held on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Algeria and Chile, shedding light on the friendship ties between the two countries.
“This fifth round of political consultations coincides with the celebration, on Sunday, by Algeria of the Day of its diplomacy, corresponding with the date of its membership of the United Nations Organization as an independent State and a full member (8 October 1962),” said Magramane.
In this regard, he stressed “Algeria’s willingness to work jointly with Chile for the strengthening of the friendship and cooperation relations in the best interests of the two countries.”
He said he is convinced that the program of consultations “will contribute to achieve the expected objectives and to give new impetus to the bilateral relations.”
For her part, Gloria de la Fuente emphasized the necessity of intensifying the relations between the two countries, “which despite their geographical remoteness, have good relations,” she said.
“It is our duty today to work for the intensification of these relations, starting from these political consultations between the two countries,” she added.
Pointing out the depth of the Algerian-Chilean relations which date back to 1963 with the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Chilean official welcomed Algeria’s support and solidarity with Chile and its diplomatic support which strengthened the international condemnation of the era of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
Gloria de la Fuente was received, earlier today, by Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf.
