ALGIERS – Tuesday, 11 July 2023 (APS) – Minister of Transport Youcef Cherfa announced Monday, in Algiers, the implementation of an action programme to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and Chad in transports, notably road freight and passenger transport, which will result in the signing of an agreement between the two countries in September 2023.

 

In a press release on the sidelines of His meeting with Chadian Minister of Land Transport and Road Safety Fatimé Goukouni Weddeye, who is on a two-day working visit to Algeria, Cherfa said that this meeting “enabled implementing an action programme to strengthen cooperation in road freight and passenger transport, and to accompany Chadian companies in the field of transport and technical control, as well as the construction and management of bus stations, given the Algerian experience in this field.”

This action programme provides for the preparation and resumption of flights between N’Djamena and Algiers, added the source.

The two sides also agreed to hold, by the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024, of a meeting of the joint committee between the two sectors in order to implement a roadmap developed by the two sides.

For her part, Chad’s minister said that this meeting was an opportunity to define the partnership prospects in the fields related to the sector, notably in terms of air transport, ports, railway tracks and road safety, for their exploitation and development.

She also underlined Chad’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with Algeria in transports, adding that the meeting between the two sides enabled examining the proposals likely to shape new cooperation model.
