ALGIERS – Tuesday, 23 May 2023 (APS) – Health Minister Abdelhak Saihi said Tuesday in an address to the 76th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva (Switzerland) that Algeria applies a “clear” national health policy based on the principle of equity and human rights.
“The implementation of a clear national health policy, based on the principle of equity, is a key element in the national health policy, which is based on the principle of equity in terms health care and human rights and supported by programmes, is the approach adopted by Algeria,” which, he said, has committed itself, like several other countries to achieve the the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).In this regard, the minister said that Algeria has put in place “a policy aimed at improving access to health services” in order to “meet the needs of the population”, he said.
The law on health adopted in Algeria in 2018 is “an expression of the political will to put in place a policy of health promotion and disease prevention, as stipulated in the Constitution.”
The increase in the budget allocated to the health sector aims to “preserve free services in the areas of prevention and treatment”, and to remove any financial barriers to the provision of necessary medical necessary medical care.
