ORAN – Sunday, 29 May 2022 (APS) – The Algerian judo team (seniors) was crowned African champions (mixed teams) Sunday in Oran, at the end of the 43rd continental sporting event.
In the sixth fight, Halata Yamina (-57 kg) sealed the fate of the final of the African championship allowing Algeria to win (4-2).
Halata was the fourth judoka of the Algerian team to have won the fight after Redouane Messaoud (-73 kg), Bellakhal Souad (-70 kg), and Asselah Souad (-70 kg). Surprisingly, Benamadi Abderrahmane (-90 kg) and Berrakaa Mohamed (+ 90 kg) bowed to the Senegalese Diao and Ndyae.
Coach Ahmed Moussa said he was “very happy” with this victory against Senegal in a final that “was hardly easy” for his team, he told APS.
“As expected, the mission was not easy against the Senegalese opponent, the winner of the previous edition by teams. We met the challenge,” he said.
