ALGIERS – Monday, 10 October 2022 (APS) – Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane said Thursday in Algiers that the meeting of the Algerian-French High-Level Intergovernmental Committee was an opportunity to highlight the importance of encouraging partners and productive investments, underlining the “exceptional role” of bilateral relations, especially last Augusts’ visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Algeria on the invitation of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a joint statement with his French counterpart Elisabeth Borne, at the end of the 5th Algerian-French High-Level Intergovernmental Committee, Benabderrahmane said the session was an opportunity for the two sides to stress the importance of encouraging partners and productive investments and creators of wealth and jobs, mainly under the new investment legal framework in Algeria.
He added that it was “essential not to be satisfied with commercial exchanges, adding that trade alone would not allow us to reach the promising future the leaders of the two countries traced for Algerian-French relations.”
The meeting was meant to “give a concrete expression to the commitments of the two countries during the French president’s last visit to Algeria,” Benabderrahmane said.
It “also shows the desire of Algeria and France to give a fresh impetus to bilateral relations, through new work rules that will allow us to make progress as part of a mutually beneficial strategic partnership.”
The premier pointed out that he discussed with his French counterpart “all areas and designated the focal points at the level of ministries, to follow up on the conclusions of the meeting.”
The meeting, which brought together 15 ministers of the two countries, was also an occasion to discuss “the exceptional potential of both countries and the many opportunities that are yet to be exploited.”
