ALGIERS – Wednesday, 11 October 2023 (APS) – The 26th International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA) will be organized, from 25 October to 4 November, under the slogan “Africa writes its future” with the participation of 1,283 exhibitors from 61 countries, including 18 African countries, the Fair’s commissioner Mohamed Iguerb said on Tuesday.

In a press conference held at the Palace of Culture “Moufdi-Zakaria,” Iguerb, accompanied by two central directors of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, said that SILA, organized under the patronage of the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, comes this year to pay tribute to the African continent under the slogan “Africa writes its future.”

 

The commissioner said that this major cultural event “will shed light on the common historical achievements, will present and enhance them culturally and economically, in addition to the reviewing of the aspirations of the African countries and peoples, notably Algeria.”

The Fair will be marked by the participation of 1,283 exhibitors, including 267 Algerian exhibitors, 361 Arab exhibitors and 625 foreigners, who will display their works over a surface area exceeding 20,000 m2, according to Iguerb who said that it is record participation that has never been achieved in the previous editions, making this fair one of the biggest exhibitions in the world and the first in the Arab, African and Mediterranean countries in terms of participation and sales.”

A total of 40 cultural and literary activities are scheduled, in the presence of Algerian, Arab and foreign personalities. A program celebrating the anniversary of the 1st November, entitles “November at the heart of SILA” is also scheduled in this regard.
