DOHA (Qatar) – Sunday, 10 December 2023 (APS) – The works of the 21st Doha Forum opened Sunday with the participation of the ministry of foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, the personal representative of the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The forum, being held under the slogan: “Building Shared Futures,” is also attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and many leaders of countries and international organisations.
Speaking at the event’s opening, Guterres deplored UN “paralysis” over the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip, saying he bemoaned that the Security Council failed to vote for a ceasefire resolution.
The Security Council, he stressed, was “paralyzed by geostrategic divisions,” undermining its capacity to find solutions to conflicts.
“The authority and credibility of the Security Council have seriously been undermined” by its late response to the Middle East conflict, a blow to its reputation, worsened by the United States’ veto on Friday to a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, he said.
