ALGIERS – Wednesday, 15 November 2023 (APS) – The 1st edition of the International Date Fair opened Wednesday at the “SAFEX” Exhibition Centre, Pins Maritimes (Algiers), with the participation of over 150 exhibitors from the sector.

Organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture (CNA) in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the event, which runs until November 18, was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafidh Henni, in the presence of members of the government, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria, as well as the president of the People’s Provincial Assembly of Algiers (APW).

Over 150 exhibitors are taking part, including producers, warehousers, packers, processors and exporters, as well as exhibitors from foreign countries including Libya and Iraq.

The event aims to raise awareness of the varieties of Algerian dates and the importance of preserving them by intensifying production while promoting the different players in the sector, particularly rural women, who make a major contribution to promoting the date industry.

In addition, the event aims to boost exports of dates and date derivatives on international markets as an additional source of foreign currency, and to diversify exports, especially as the date industry haas experienced a very positive momentum, strengthening the position of Algerian dates on world markets.

Algerian dates are now the leading agricultural sector in the southern regions, with over 16 million palm trees and more than 800 varieties.
