ABUJA – Saturday, 20 May 2023 (APS) – President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune was honoured on Friday in Abuja (Nigeria), at the end of the 14th session of the General Assembly (GA) of the African Broadcasting Union (ABU), in recognition of his efforts to support the development process in Africa.

“It is a great honour for me to express, on behalf of all African media, our gratitude to the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” said the Director General of the ABU Grégoire Ndjaka, in a speech delivered on the occasion.

He also highlighted “the gratitude of the members of the UAR to President Tebboune who will soon lay the foundation stone of the Media City in Bouchaoui, which will house a teleport centre belonging to the ABU, a gift from Algeria,” adding that this gift “is a historic decision in Africa.”

Ndjaka said that President Tebboune “is one of the few leaders to have held the post of Minister of Communication and therefore has a great experience and knowledge of the mission of informing,” praising his unceasing support to accompany the efforts of journalists.

For his part, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Bouslimani, said that the tribute paid to the President of the Republic “is a recognition of his great efforts in favour of the African continent,” recalling the launch of the radio station “Ifrikya FM,” which acts as a relay for Africa and tries to “position itself on a global media scene, where there is unfair competition against our continent.”
