ALGIERS – Tuesday, 11 October 2022 (APS) – A delegation of the Algerian Parliament is partaking in the meetings of the African and Arab geopolitical groups, on the eve of the opening of the 145th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its meetings, scheduled in Kigali (Rwanda), said Monday the Upper House of Parliament in a statement.

In preparation for the opening of the 145th IPU Assembly, the Union’s geopolitical groups held their meetings on Monday at Kigali Conference Center, said the source.

The joint parliamentary delegation made up of the People’s National Assembly and the Council of the Nation, and chaired by Vice-President of the Council of the Nation, Lotfi Boumediene Chibane, participated in the two meetings of the Arab and African groups.

The two meetings of the Arab and African groups were devoted to consultation and the exchange of views on requests for the inclusion of urgent items on the agenda of the General Assembly and the Governing Council, as well as the approval of the candidacies of the two groups for vacant posts in the Union’s institutions.

Chibane stressed the importance of this meeting being “one of the opportunities and occasions that consolidate the rapprochement between the Arab countries, and promote solidarity and cooperation between the representatives of the Arab peoples, to unite ranks, coordinate positions, and face major challenges,” added the source.
