ALGIERS – Wednesday, 27 April 2022 (APS) – The public production in the steel, metal, mechanical, electrical and electronic industries (ISMMEE) increased by 4.1% in 2021, the National Office of Statistics (ONS) told APS.
“After a significant decline of 33.7% recorded in 2020, the ISMMEE experienced a recovery in the production by recording an annual average variation of 4.1% in 2021,” ONS said in its latest report n the public industrial production.
This trend is tangible in the first two quarters of the year with +8.6% and 50.7% respectively, while the last two quarters recorded a decline by -1.4% and -18.4% respectively, said the source.
Several branches of ISMMEE contributed to this growth. However, 7 in 13 branches recorded good results.
The manufacture of mechanical equipment goods recorded the most important growth among the other branches with +58%.
The manufacture of electrical equipment goods posted a 49.3% increase in 2021 after a similar drop in 2020. This performance was achieved thanks to the good results during the second and third quarters.
