MOSCOW – Saturday, 17 June 2023 (APS) – The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune left Moscow for Algiers on Saturday, after a state visit to the Russian Federation, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
This historic and important visit, which testifies to the strength of relations between the two countries, was marked by intense activity by President Tebboune.
During the visit, the President of the Republic was given a solemn welcome by his Russian counterpart at the Kremlin Palace, prior to talks between the two presidents, which were subsequently extended to members of the two countries’ delegations.
In a joint statement with his Russian counterpart at the end of these talks, the President of the Republic thanked President Putin for the trust placed in him and in Algeria to mediate between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The two Presidents also signed the Declaration on Deep Strategic Partnership between Algeria and the Russian Federation and co-chaired the signing ceremony of several agreements, memorandums of understanding, and action programs between the Algerian and Russian governments.
Accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation, the President of the Republic also chaired the Algeria-Russia Economic Forum, attended by 70 Algerian economic operators and 200 Russian businessmen.
Speaking at the Forum, President Tebboune affirmed that Algeria had embarked on a multidimensional economic recovery program, and had declared 2023 the year of economic recovery.
The President of the Republic also inaugurated the stele commemorating the founder of the modern Algerian state, Emir Abdelkader, in the center of Moscow.
During his visit, which boosted the historical and strategic relations between the two countries, President Tebboune held talks with senior officials of the Russian Federation and awarded the “El Achir” medal of the Order of National Merit to Andrei Pavlenko, in recognition of his contribution to the neutralization of thousands of mines planted by the French occupiers along Algeria’s borders during the glorious War of Liberation. He also met with representatives of the national community established in the Russian Federation.
On the final day of his visit, the President of the Republic took part in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) as a guest of honor.
