JOHANNESBURG (South Africa) – Tuesday, 22 August 2023 (APS) – Finance Minister, Laaziz Faid on Sunday called on members of the Algerian community abroad to make a greater contribution to the country’s development efforts.
At a meeting with representatives of the Algerian community in South Africa, Faid said that “Algeria is experiencing a new economic momentum and a new era of renewal.”
Praising the level of Algerian experts abroad, the Minister recalled the statements made by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who affirmed that “the national community is now an elite” and that “the doors are wide open for it to contribute to the country’s development.”
The Minister conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic to the Algerian diaspora in South Africa, underlining the importance attached by President Tebboune “to promoting their place and strengthening ties with their homeland.”
Meetings with members of the diaspora are a tradition established by the President of the Republic to listen to their concerns and keep them informed of the latest developments in the country, as part of the promising process of renewal underway in Algeria, he said.
He also recalled the measures taken by Algeria in favour of its diaspora to strengthen its ties with the mother country, through its association as a force of influence and proposal in the development process, in addition to the efforts undertaken to extend the Algerian banking network abroad to facilitate financial transactions and encourage investment.
Members of the Algerian community in South Africa raised a number of issues, including the importance of the direct air service between Algiers and Johannesburg.
The Minister of Finance is visiting South Africa as the representative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the “BRICS Outreach Plus” forum, organized as part of the 15th BRICS Summit.
