ALGIERS – Friday, 07 July 2023 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf held Thursday, following his participation in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), bilateral meetings with top officials of the host country, notably the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Speaker of the Parliament Sahiba Qafarova, in addition to thorough discussions he had with his Azerbaijani counterpart Djeyhoun Baïramov, the ministry said in a statement.

  During the audience granted to him by Azerbaijani President, Attaf conveyed to Aliyev the greetings “of his brother the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his congratulations for the successful presidency by Azerbaijan of NAM, which has placed the priorities of the two presidents at the heart of its concerns, like youth, the female element, and the multilateral parliamentary dimension,” said the source.

Attaf reaffirmed President Tebboune’s commitment to continuing efforts in order to strengthen the Algerian-Azerbaijani relations at all the levels, added the source.

For his part, “President Aliyev welcomed the initiative of his brother President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to invite him as a guest of honour at the Arab Summit, hosted last year by Algeria, as well as the support  provide by Algeria to him during his presidential term of NAM,” said the source.

Azerbaijan’s president said he wants to intensify communication and coordination in order to raise the relations between the two countries to the highest levels.

He extended an invitation extended an invitation to the President of the Republic to pay a State visit to Azerbaijan “as soon as possible, according to his commitments and obligations.”

The talks enabled confirming the convergence of views of the two countries’ leaders on the importance of reviving and strengthening the role of NAM, in light of the “complex” situation marking the international relations, while reaffirming their “strong willingness and the great ambition to explore the promising prospects of the bilateral cooperation in various fields, added the source.
