ORAN – Monday, 11 December 2023 (APS) – The minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, chaired Monday the inauguration ceremony of the Italian “FIAT” car plant in the industrial zone of the municipality of Tafraoui, in Oran.

The inauguration ceremony of this plant was attended by the Italian Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Valentino Valentini, and the Executive Director of the Stellantis group, Carlos Tafriz, to which FIAT’s brand belongs.

This structuring project was completed in record time since the construction work began in November 2022, after the signing of a framework agreement between the Ministry of Industry and “Stellantis” group in October 2022. The latter is the world’s fourth largest automotive industry group, which has 12 brands including “FIAT”.

The framework agreement signed between the two parties emphasizes the necessity of developing industrial activities related to automotive manufacturing, after-sales service, and spare parts, in addition to the development of the automotive manufacturing sector in Algeria.

The Stellantis group said that the initial production capacity of the plant is estimated at 60,000 cars annually in the first phase, rising to 90,000 cars per year in the second phase. Fiat’s Tafraoui auto plant will produce three types of cars (models) until 2026, while the production of the fourth type will start in 2029.

The plant employed 300 workers in 2023, and 300 others are expected to be in 2024, most of whom were trained as part of a cooperation program between the “Stellantis” company and the Vocational Training and Education sector.
